The New Territory is an autobiography of the Lower MidwestWith each issue, we bring forth stories from Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas and Nebraska. Focused on longform journalism and with a deep commitment to storytelling, we don’t shy away from work that interrogates, celebrates and resonates with the region.

Our core team is small and scrappy: six editors, marketers, developers, jacks-of-all-trades. They collaborate on the cloud and in a few rare, shining moments, get to meet each other in person. Our spring 2019 fellowship program offers the opportunity for three creative, optimistic Midwesterners with passions for the region’s land, people and possibilities to join our team. Fellows play an important role in contributing and shaping the magazine, and they tend to take on leadership roles over time.

Our spring 2019 fellowship is a four-month commitment (February 7 to June 1) to serve with The New Territory and may be extended if both fellows and staff agree. We anticipate about 7 hours of work each week. While we are unable to pay fellows at this time, we will pay stipends for travel, subscriptions for you and your loved ones and a New Territory T-shirt. Fellows will be recognized in The New Territory masthead and online. See below for fellowship positions.
