You can make 2023 the start of something special. Here's how.

Dear friends,

Since our founding in 2016, The New Territory has kept a promise to our readers: Amid all this world’s uncertainty, you will find peace in your place.

Toward this end, we gained major traction this year:

501(c)3 Nonprofit

Our 501(c)3 nonprofit status, earned this April, strengthens our leadership, helps us plan for the future, and enables us to accept tax-deductible gifts and grants.

New Donations

We have raised more than $30,000 in private donations to begin paying staff for the very first time. Another $17,000 is already pledged for next year.

River Town Podcast

Our first podcast project, a collaboration led by KBIA (NPR affiliate at the University of Missouri School of Journalism), expands our offerings and reach. Work began this spring, and we expect a spring 2024 launch.

Literary Landscapes in Kansas

This November, Humanities Kansas approved more than $9,000 of funding for our new project “Literary Landscapes in Kansas: From the Ground to the Airwaves,” in partnership with High Plains Public Radio.

New Voices

We released Issue 13 and Issue 14 in print and Literary Landscapes Volumes 11 and 12 online: powerful additions to nearly 400 different voices from the region

I feel emboldened by these investments from donors, contributors, and collaborators. If you believe, as I do, that making sense of our region’s history, culture, and nature can be a restorative act, then please join our mission by making a gift to The New Territory Magazine.

With your support, we will publish two more issues in 2024, enroll 500 new subscribers, and reach thousands more through our audio projects, events, and new workshops to support Midwestern writers.

Last month, 80 people from six different states attended our first Pageturner fundraiser, a gratifying turnout and an unforgettable evening. We thank our guests, our subscribers, and everyone who has donated so far. Make a tax-deductible gift to The New Territory today, and be a part of the future of place-based narratives in the Great Plains, Ozarks, and around the world.

Sincerely,

Tina Casagrand Foss
Founder, Editor-in-Chief, and Executive Director

P.S. – Gifts of all sizes are welcome. If you prefer to give monthly, starting with as little as $2 per month, we encourage you to sign up for our Patreon. As a New Territory donor at any level, you will receive fun, patron-only behind-the-scenes updates of our programs, team and previews of the print magazine.
